Carrie Court -嘉景樓
22 Man Fuk Road, Homantin, 何文田文 福道22號
Building age: 1966 Area: 606 sqft
Carrie Court is 58 years old, old buildings tend to have the common problem of structural defects and water leakage. The floor size of the flat is 606 sqft, which is relatively small and just sufficient for a small family of 3 stretching for 4.
The client resides outside of Hong Kong and this flat has been their long vacation home.
With a relatively small floor area, the client's criteria is to house a family of 5, and on occasion maybe up to 7. Most of the time they intend their home to only cater for 1. To pin this situation down, a flexible design was initially proposed, but unfortunately with the heavy load-bearing wall separating the first two rooms, this approach had to be forfeited. To maximise the efficient usage of spaces, the entrance room turned into a multifunction space where kids can sleep on tatami, and the stage area below is used for storage. The living space is furnished with a sofa bed and fold-away dining table and directly opposite is the kitchen, the wall was taken out to expand the limited space nature of the living space and a sliding partition was added to enclose the fumes from cooking occasionally. Next to the living space we have the main bedroom, which is furnished with a queen size bed, and an under-sliding bed.
The design composition using Japanese minimalism and natural elements creates a simplicity but functional space.
